Classes for January - March 2010


BABY SURPRISE JACKET
We will be knitting Elizabeth Zimmerman’s most enduring baby sweater. It is all garter stitch and you end up with an amorphous shape that amazingly sews into a baby sweater. We have a spreadsheet that will make your life easier.

A TASTE OF KNITTING

Come see what all the knitting excitement is about! This is a two-part class in which you will learn to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. If you have taken the class before and feel that you need a refresher, come and join us again.

CABLES AND LACE FINGERLESS MITTS
This is a beautiful addition to the Lucita Hat. Fingerless mitts are really useful for knitting and computer work in your possibly chilly house or work environment. You will need 64 size 5 or 6 beads for this project.

FREE WASHCLOTH CLASS – Note Time Change
Washcloths have been so popular lately that we are having another free class! Our cloth patterns for February will be something with hearts. Bring your size 6 or 7 needles and have some fun! There is a $5.00 kit fee for the yarn and pattern.

OPENING CEREMONIES OF THE RAVELYMPICS
We are having a party to kick off the Ravelympics. Knitting will officially start at 6:00pm so come early and get a good seat. There will be a TV set up so everyone can watch the opening ceremonies while we cast on. Bring a potluck dish and your Olympic spirit. Everyone who enters an event will receive a special gift from Team Ancient Bacon.

BEGINNING CROCHET
We have been getting a lot of calls expressing interest in crochet. Now’s the time to learn a new skill. You will learn how to make a slipknot, chain, single crochet, half double and double crochet. There are lots of fashion forward patterns being written now so you’re sure to find something interesting to make after you learn the basics.

FABERGE MITTENS

Mittens to accompany your Faberge Neckwarmer! With all of my walking, I have discovered how nice it would be to have a matching set. Now you too can have some style in your life! You will need 150 to 225 size 5 beads. The number depends on what size mitten you are making. If you are on Ravelry, please purchase the pattern there before class. We will have the beads in stock.

FUZZY FEET
Description from Knitty.com: “These slippers are made by knitting a pair of gigantic and I mean GIGANTIC! socks at a very loose gauge, then slowly felting them either in the washing machine or by hand to a custom fit.” These slippers are a great way to learn how to knit socks without having to use tiny needles. It’s a quick knit and most mistakes you make will disappear in the felting process.

BASIC BEGINNER BEANIE

TUNISIAN CROCHET
This is an old technique that is new again. It combines parts of knitting and crocheting and makes a fabric that looks almost woven. Join us for a one - day class to learn this newly popular technique.

LUCITA HAT
“Where lace meets cables at the intersection of bead blvd.” Yes, Meg is fascinated with beads this season, why do you ask? This pattern will need to be purchased online at www.wovenspun.etsy.com before class. You will also need 200 size 5 or 6 seed beads. Homework is to string the beads and knit the ribbing so we can get started right away on the beads.

EASY LACE HEADBAND
Headbands are really popular right now. We have a lovely lace one for you to learn. It starts and ends with a 2x2 rib and the middle is an easy lace pattern. This would be a great way to learn basic lace if the word LACE makes you nervous.

BEADED HEARTS BABY HAT
What child, or adult for that matter, doesn’t need a sparkly beaded hat? Anyone who knows how to knit a hat will be ready for this class. Beads will be used instead of Fair Isle knitting for the heart motifs. You will need to string the beads, cast on and knit several rows before the class, as you will be focusing on learning how to knit with beads and a chart. When you sign up be sure to ask for the homework details.

QUEEN ANNE CROCHETED SCARF

So far, this scarf looks great in everything I have seen it made in. I would say this is an intermediate level project.

SHEEPY PANTS

SLIP INTO SOCKS
Cold feet? Learn to knit socks and have a project for those chilly spring evenings. In this class you will learn how to measure your foot, turn a heel, finish the toe and end up with a fantastic piece of knitting. Some experience with double point needles is good but not necessary.

Jane Davis has designed another stunning scarf with worsted weight yarn and beads. Big surprise, more beads! I already have the yarn and beads in stock so you can do some one - stop shopping. This is one of the simpler ways to knit with beads; if you know how to knit and purl you can make this. The beads will need to be strung before class so please come in early to pick your supplies. The pattern has detailed directions for grafting the two sides together and you can always come in when you finish both sides for some hands - on help.

FRONDLY HAT
Are you ready for a slightly different take on a hat? “The band for this hat is knit lengthwise, and then joined into a circle. The stitches for the sides and crown of the hat are then picked up along one edge of this band.” Sarah - Hope Parmeter. The band is a very pretty lace pattern and crown of the hat is knit in seed stitch.

MULTIDIRECTIONAL DIAGONAL SCARF
I have a great way to use up some of your leftover yarns. The pattern is easy and great for beginners using simple increases and decreases to create interlocking triangles. Bring all of your scraps and we will work with you on putting all of the colors together.
