New Knitting Dates

We will be knitting on Saturday, November 13, from 11:30am to about 1pm at either the Fig Garden Starbucks or inside Whole Foods in the food court area. It just depends on whether there is enough space at Starbucks. Look for knitters, we shouldn’t be hard to spot!

Tuesday nights I am moving over to Whole Foods as Starbucks is too crowded and it’s too cold to sit outside. This meetup goes from 6pm to 9pm and can get raunchy. It’s loads of fun though!

This week we will be knitting at Charlotte's Bakery on Thursday, November 11 from 11am to 1pm.

EZ 100TH ANNIVERSARY SHAWL
“Elizabeth Zimmermann was born on August 9th, 1910 (8/9/10), so this year 2010 is the 100th anniversary of her birth. This shawl was designed as a tribute to EZ and a celebration of all she has done for us. It is based on her PI Shawl which can be found in her book Knitter’s Almanac. For the EZ 100th Anniversary PI Shawl, modifications have been applied so that the lace design stitch repeats and the number of rounds between the increase rounds are multiples of 8, 9, and 10 (the numbers in her birthday). Use any yarn weight and needle size that you like.” Judy, the designer.

Vine Yoke Caridgan
We are starting a sweater knit-along this month!
The group choice is the Vine Yoke Cardigan using Lorna's Laces Shepard Worsted or any other worsted weight yarn.

Please feel free to play along with us even if you choose a different sweater. We want everyone to participate in our Sweater Madness!

All yarns for the knit-along will have to be ordered in advance, so please come in soon and pick your perfect color.

Babette Crocheted Afghan
We are having a crochet-along using the Babette pattern from Interweave Crochet. The pattern is made up of individual squares in 6 different sizes. This makes it perfect for summer crocheting, as there are no big squares on your lap. If you are on Ravelry you can see the many variations that are possible.

The estimated start date is Thursday, August 5 2010. We aren't starting until August so we can pick out your colors and collect deposits before ordering the yarn. We have two choices of yarn for you to choose from, Dream in Color's Smooshy and Brown Sheep's Naturespun Fingering. If you want to use Smooshy we will have color kits available, and if you want to use Naturespun we will help you pick your colors.

WATERFALL BEADED SCARF
Jane Davis has designed another stunning scarf with worsted weight yarn and beads. Big surprise, more beads! This is one of the simpler ways to knit with beads; if you know how to knit and purl you can make this. The beads will need to be strung before class so please come in early to order your yarn. We used size 5/0 Triangular beads which can be purchased at Jewelart or www.kandrasbeads.com. The pattern has detailed directions for grafting the two sides together and you can always come in when you finish both sides for some hands - on help.

Fee: $22.00 plus materials

BABY EINSTEIN COAT
This is a wonderful, smaller version of Sally Melville’s Einstein Coat. It uses very simple garter stitch and rectangular shapes with minimal sewing. The pattern calls for DK weight yarn but we used worsted weight to make a toddler jacket. You will need to purchase the book The Knit Stitch by Sally Melville.
Dates: Saturdays, April, 17, 24, May 1
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Fee: $66.00 plus materials
Instructor: Jolene Meurer

BROADRIPPLE SOCKS
“The pattern is a deceptively simple ripple stitch, comprised of only two rounds, one of which is a work even round. Using just a few well-spaced increases and decreases, you create a wonderful ripple fabric that looks more intricate than it really is.” Designer Rob Matyska. Jolene can help you with the stitch count so you can use sock yarn instead of the yarn called for in the pattern.
Dates: Tuesdays, April 20, 27, May 4
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Fee: $44.00 plus materials
